So i’m reading this book on the origins of Fort Rucker…
and it was taken in eminent domain back in 1935. The farmers that owned the land were relocated in a social engineering experiment during Roosevelt’s New Deal. In total 35,000 acres was seized and “bought” for an average price of $1.25/ acre.
Also, Fort Rucker was named after Confederate General Edmund W. Rucker who served in the prestigious “Forrest Cavalry Corps”.
